Taiwan Unemployment Rate Drops To Seven-Month Low
Taiwan’s unemployment rate decreased in December to the lowest level in seven months, data released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics showed Wednesday.
The unemployment rate, on an unadjusted basis, declined to 4.08 percent in December from 4.16 percent in November. The December figure was the lowest since May. The jobless rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 13.1 percent in December, which was lower than 13.56 percent recorded in November.
The total number of unemployed persons in the country slid to around 469,000 from about 478,000 in November. Compared to December 2012, unemployment dropped 1.66 percent.
At the same time, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 4.12 percent in December from 4.15 percent in November.
Data showed that the number of persons in employment increased to around 11.03 million in December from about 11.02 million in the prior month. Year-on-year, employment increased by 0.9 percent.
The labor force participation rate decreased to 58.55 percent in December from 55.57 percent a month earlier.
