U.s Industrial Production expected to rise Only Slightly in Dec

- The unusually severe winter weather probably played a part in industrial production (14.15 GMT) rising only slightly in December.

- Manufacturing output may have risen by just 0.2% m/m in December. Normally, unusually cold winter weather boosts production, as the extra demand for heating leads to an increase in utilities output. But the weekly electricity usage figures suggest that this may not have been the case, although it remains an upside risk.

- We expect that a small fall in utilities output offset a small rise in mining output to leave overall industrial production up by 0.2% m/m.
